Staveley Birkleas Nursing Home

People with disabilities who are unable to look after themselves in their own homes are able to thrive at Staveley Birkleas, living an independent lifestyle, whilst having round the clock care, in a safe and stimulating environment.

Initially two separate homes, which opened in 1983 and 1986 respectively, we adapted and added a purpose-built annexe in 2004 to create a very special environment where people can move easily around the home and its extensive grounds.

With mainly single en-suite rooms that include quality furniture, a nurse call system, television, telephone point and a safe, we always make sure that our residents really feel at home. In fact, we recently converted two rooms for one resident into a small ‘apartment’ where she can have her own en-suite wet room, bedroom and lounge, giving her even more independence.

We also spend time with each resident to find out what they like, what their interests are, and if they have any ideas on how they would like their room to look and then work out how we can bring their vision to life. We go through what each resident is hoping to achieve in their room and talk about every stage of the design process with them so they have full control. We go shopping together for particular items that will help achieve the look they want and our in-house decorators then make it a reality.

We recently opened a new hair salon which is specifically designed to accommodate all our residents and their conditions. and have a dedicated physiotherapy room, with full-time physio aide, as well as an adapted kitchen designed to aid rehabilitation.
